Custom-designed bed is ideal for football fans everywhere

Just when you thought you couldn’t get enough football in your life, think again. Today Milwaukee-based Verlo Mattress Factory has introduced the Official Cheesehead® Bed, a customized fan experience that combines a good night sleep with championship football, perfect for the die-hard fans of the Green Bay Packers.

Introduced during the heart of the 2012 football season, the Verlo Cheesehead Bed is inspired by the popular foam Cheesehead® hats frequently worn by Packers fans during football games. The bed is made of a gel foam or memory foam mattress encased in a gold-colored cover that resembles a big block of cheese.

“As the Official Mattress of the Green Bay Packers, we felt it would be fun to show our team spirit and create a mattress that is bound to bring a smile to Packers fans – as well as a good night’s sleep,” said Scott Baitinger, chief marketing officer at Verlo.

In addition to its unusual appearance, the Cheesehead Bed has a unique pricing structure. When the Packers win, the mattress will be sold at a celebratory price for 24 hours following the win – making fans doubly happy. For example, a twin-sized Cheesehead Bed that normally retails for $799 will be reduced to only $599.

As part of the launch, Verlo is also introducing the “Who has the Cheesiest Bedroom?” Facebook contest. Scheduled to run November 1 through November 30, the lucky fan who submits a photo of the cheesiest bedroom will receive a free Cheesehead Bed delivered by former Green Bay Packers safety LeRoy Butler, the founder of the world famous Lambeau Leap.

“I love the entire idea behind the Cheesehead Bed,” said Butler. “Wisconsinites love their football and their cheese, so combining them both with a good night’s sleep from Verlo is a win for everyone.”

While a novelty product, the Cheesehead Bed is a legitimate, high-quality sleep product featuring the same comfort and support as Verlo’s other customized mattresses. Its innovative gel foam and memory foam provide pressure-relieving support that conforms to each person’s body and eliminates partner disturbance. It also offers increased airflow for optimal sleep temperatures.

The official Verlo Cheesehead Bed, available in twin, full, queen and king sizes, is sold exclusively at Verlo Mattress Factory stores throughout Wisconsin. For more information, visit www.cheeseheadbed.com.

Cheesehead® is a registered trademark of Foamation, LLC.

Best defense against a poor night’s sleep

The Green Bay Packers’ best defense against a poor night’s sleep may be a mattress made by Verlo Mattress Factory, which was named the Official Mattress of the Green Bay Packers today.

The announcement, made jointly by the Green Bay Packers and Verlo, reflects a natural partnership between two organizations with a history of excellence and performance.

In fact, the Green Bay Packers sleep on Verlo mattresses while attending training camp each year at St. Norbert College, so they have first-hand knowledge of their comfort and durability.

Verlo Mattress Factory is the only manufacturer to back their mattresses with a Lifetime Comfort Guarantee. For over 50 years, the Wisconsin-based manufacturer has built high-quality custom mattresses in their local factories, and then sold them at factory-direct prices.

“We are very proud to be affiliated with the Green Bay Packers,” said Verlo president Tom Cass. “There is a direct correlation between getting enough sleep and being able to perform at your peak. This is especially true for professional athletes whose muscles take a daily beating.”

Verlo mattresses accommodate a person’s natural sleep position, which helps to eliminate the tossing and turning that takes place during the night. By doing this, Verlo provides customers with a more restful night’s sleep and contributes to enhanced performances.

“Just as the Packers organization is building a legacy in addition to a winning season, Verlo is building more than a mattress,” said Scott Baitinger, chief marketing officer at Verlo. “We’re building a better night’s sleep.”

Eye-opening facts about shut-eye and your vision

Anyone who has experienced a poor night’s sleep can attest to how difficult it can be to reach your optimal performance level when you’re tired. But did you know a lack of sleep can also impact your eye health?

According to sources listed on the Mezzmer Blog, not getting enough rest can cause myokymia, which is an involuntary spasm in your eyelid.

Although myokymia is annoying, it isn’t as troublesome as the other eye issues that can develop from not getting enough shut-eye.

“One condition that can result from lack of sleep is ischemic optic neuropathy (AION). This will occur with a pain in the eye shortly after you wake up. Ischemic optic neuropathy is due to damage in the optic nerve from lack of blood supply. As a result, people who suffer from this condition find that they can’t see well out of one eye,” states the Mezzmer Blog.

Even more serious is the possibility of developing glaucoma.

With glaucoma, there is the loss of peripheral vision, which can eventually turn into blindness. The Mezzner Blog warns, “This is a condition that you absolutely don’t want to get, and it is one major reason that getting enough sleep should be taken very seriously.”

While you should always seek proper medical attention for any eye problems, the easiest and most obvious thing you can do to prevent them from occurring in the first place is to get the proper amount of sleep so that your eyes can get the rest they need.

And a mattress from Verlo may be just the ticket to a better night’s sleep.

Good call.

Alice Ponga’s kindness toward her sisters results in pain relief for herself

Image

Alice Ponga hadn’t planned on buying herself a new mattress. The 72-year-old Milwaukee woman was more concerned about the mattress in her guest bedroom — the bed her sisters slept on whenever they visited.

“It was about 25 years old,” she says. “Even though it didn’t get used every day, it was still time to replace it. My sisters said that they were fine with the old one, but I wanted them to have something better.”

The guest bedroom mattress she purchased — a queen-sized Ashford from Verlo Mattress Factory Stores’ Elegant Collection — was delivered last August.

Alice shopped at Verlo because she had heard good things about Verlo from her friends.

“I had talked to three friends who had purchased Verlo mattresses. One said she has had her mattress for 25 years and it’s still fine. Another friend hadn’t been able to find a comfortable mattress until she bought a Verlo, and she has been very, very happy with it. And another longtime friend is also a happy Verlo customer,” she says.

Unfortunately, Alice’s health then began to decline after August. She found pain relief in an unexpected place: the new Verlo mattress in her guest bedroom.

“I started having problems with my hip — some arthritis,” she explains. “The mattress in my room was only five years old. I had bought it from a big furniture store, and I loved it in the beginning. But then my hip started aching at night, and I started sleeping in the guest room on the new Verlo mattress, and I didn’t experience pain.”

“I felt the mattress in my room was too soft. I enjoyed it for four or five years, but then it just seemed too soft.”

So months after buying her guest room mattress, Alice decided to head back to Verlo to buy a new mattress for her own bedroom.

“The salesman did a wonderful job of listening to me and understanding the trouble I was having,” Alice says. The Verlo expert recommended the Verlo Ashford Elegant mattress. The mattress offers firm support to keep her body aligned, and a plush top that cushions and conforms to her body to alleviate pressure points.

“And, the mattress can be it can be flipped, unlike the old one which was starting to nest in where I had been sleeping,” she adds.

Her new Verlo mattress was delivered to her home in July 2012.

“My new mattress is wonderful,” Alice says. “Now, I feel good. Both mattresses are quality mattresses.”

How do you flip a mattress? How often?

Both excellent questions. Basic care can extend the life of your mattress so that it’s still comfortable for years:

Be sure you have a double-sided mattress: Verlo is one of the few American retailers that still sells double-sided innerspring mattresses, once the industry standard because of their quality and longevity. Sadly, most manufacturers now sell only cheaper “no flip” mattresses that can sag and break down in as little as three years.

Flipping a mattress doesn’t have to be hard: You can use the box spring as your mattress-flipping partner. There is no need to hoist the entire mattress at once. After stripping the mattress, rotate it by spinning it 90 degrees so it’s perpendicular to the box spring. Flip the mattress, then rotate it back in place. See the diagram above.

How often should you flip your mattress? Once every four months. That should prevent sags by allowing springs to expand back to their original shape. Mark your calendars so you know when it’s time to flip the mattress again.

Are there any common mistakes? Yes. First, it’s best to buy a new mattress set, not just a mattress. Verlo box springs are designed to work with specific mattresses; it’s one reason why Verlo mattresses last so long. Second, be careful while you flip the mattress; it should bend no more than 20 degrees.

Verlo stores are locally owned by craftsmen who custom-build each bed to suit customers’ needs. Milwaukee-based Verlo uses a variety of technologies to ensure a good night of sleep: innerspring mattresses, gel foam, memory foam, and adjustable air mattresses; as well as a variety of bed foundations, futons and bedroom accessories. “Cruel punishment” should not describe your mattress

If a dormitory bed could talk, think of the stories it would tell — tales of beer-soaked parties, Walking Dead marathons, salsa spills, Mountain Dew-fueled cram sessions and funky dorm towels during semesters and semesters of service.

Dorm mattresses are warriors, battered and bruised — which is how a lot of college freshmen feel after sleeping on them. As students head to campus this fall, many for the first time, they’ll be equipped with many of the tools they need. Laptop? Check. Sheets and blankets? Check. Dorm fridge? Check.

Something comfortable to sleep on? Well … does the floor count?

Turn a dorm into a sleep haven

Universities, anticipating years of abuse, usually buy extra firm mattresses that, when new, can feel like they’re made out of the same cinderblock as the dorm room walls. Of course, most dorm mattresses are several years past new. Dorm mattresses often collapse into themselves after many years of hard use — they wind up as haggard as anything – or anyone – would after a decade of dorm living.

Gabrielle Willoit, writing at collegebound.net, recounted her own story with that sort of mattress: “My dorm-issued mattress is too cruel a punishment for even the worst school slacker. It sags so much in the middle, I need hiking equipment to get out of bed in the morning.”

It’s not a joke.

College kids tend to be perpetually sleep-deprived as they balance schoolwork, jobs and socializing. When they get a chance to recharge their batteries, it needs to count. Verlo can take the edge off of dorm life by providing the comfort students need in order to catch the necessary Zs. We sell Twin XL (dorm-sized) mattresses — they’re a little longer than a standard twin, and a whole lot more comfy than what you’ll find in most dorms.

Verlo also carries an assortment of mattress protectors that will keep a new Verlo Twin XL nice and tidy no matter how party-crazy the roommate may be. Since Verlo mattresses are expected to last a decade or more, mattress protectors can help you avoid having the stain from a spilled Jägerbomb follow you into your late 20s.

Verlo stores are locally owned and feature a wide range of bedding options, whether you’re furnishing a dorm or a master suite. Our beds are built on-site and can be custom-built to deliver a perfect night of sleep tailored to your individual preferences.

Verlo Mattress Factory Stores futon deal is a dream for sleepy students

Verlo Mattress Factory stores offer a variety of futons, which are perfect for college students.

A good night’s sleep is like a deep-tissue massage for your brain, and rest is especially important for anyone trying to soak up a lot of new information — like college students, who are heading back to school to plow through weighty, extensively footnoted tomes.

Verlo Mattress Factory Stores wants to help them retain their lessons by setting them up with new, custom-made mattresses. The cost of a college education continues to rise, but thankfully, a new mattress can still be a bargain.

Verlo’s annual Futon-A-Thon, which offers deals on futons for the back-to-school season — is in effect now through August 31st . Customers can get a futon frame and mattress for as low as $199, or a new twin mattress for as little as $99.

Sleep may be even more important for students than for older adults. Sleep recharges the mind, boosting memory and creativity, yet college students tend to perpetually deprive themselves of sleep.

A 2004 study by German neuroscientists Ullrich Wagner and Jan Born showed just how valuable sleep is to college students. In an experiment, they gave college students a difficult and incredibly tedious math problem to solve. There was, however, a shortcut to a solution — but to find it, the students needed a “eureka” moment of creative insight.

Less than 20 percent of one group of students found the shortcut, despite spending hours on the problem, the scientists reported in the journal Nature. Another group was asked to sleep on it — and 60 percent who had reached R.E.M. sleep discovered the shortcut. Proving that when people get quality rest, their brains work better.

It’s an important benefit of Verlo’s high-quality mattresses, which skilled craftspeople construct to order in locally owned stores. To see how we can help you sleep better, visit your nearest Verlo location, and read more at www.Verlo.com.
