“You could feel every spring in it,” she says. Instead of looking locally in Sturgeon Bay for a King-sized upgrade, the couple first drove to Green Bay, which boasts much more retail, thinking a bigger city would have more options and better prices. After two weeks of searching they still hadn’t found a set they loved.
“The thing I was shocked about, this being our first bed shopping experience, was that a lot of companies weren’t making mattresses you could flip anymore,” Teryn says. “I really wanted that and I kept striking out with the mattresses we were seeing. Plus, they were starting at $1,200 for a King size and they were kind of awful and didn’t even flip.”
Driving home without making a purchase, the two of them saw their local Verlo Mattress Factory Store in Sturgeon Bay, noticing it for the very first time. “It was like, ta-dah!,” Teryn says. “We had no idea that Verlo even existed.”
Verlo is a unique mattress company – Verlo tailors a custom mattress for each customer specifically to fit his or her individual sleeping style. Unlike mass produced S-brand mattresses, each Verlo is locally made to order, often for far less than a department or sleep shop mattress.
They had no problem finding a bed ─ an Embassy that flips ─ once they walked into Verlo.
“The shopping experience was different because it was more one-on-one and I didn’t feel like they were trying to sell me something to get commission,” she says. “I would have never thought of buying a bed right there in Sturgeon Bay. I had no idea they made them here and I feel like my bed was custom made for me.”
Teryn and Patrick tossed the old Queen mattress three months ago. It was so unremarkable they don’t even know what brand it was. Now, after Teryn’s high praise, her neighbors bought a Verlo and even her mom fell in love with the Embassy mattress after a recent visit left her back feeling better than ever.
“My mom is super picky and lives in Alaska so she wishes there was a Verlo there,” Teryn says. “Just the other day she said ‘I wonder if there is a place like that here, too?’”
